Calendar for a Cure

The Breast Cancer Prevention Coalition (BCPC) is sponsoring a "Calendar for the Cure" fundraiser for breast cancer research at the Medical College of Georgia’s Cancer Research Center (CRC) in Augusta, Georgia.  The “Calendar for the Cure” is a beautiful and functional year 2011 calendar printed on a fabric-covered mouse pad.  Volunteers from the BCPC, MCG Cancer Patient Support group and students of North Augusta High School are participating in this fundraiser, which will run May through October 2010 and reach out to the entire CSRA.  The BCPC hopes to raise $8,000 or more through a minimum donation of $10.00 per calendar mouse pad.  In November, the BCPC will present a check to MCG Health Systems Inc. to be used for breast cancer research at MCG’s Cancer Research Center.

The beautiful art work that is the focal point of this unique calendar mouse pad was created by the winner of a contest for students in Mrs. Stark-Vargo’s art classes at North Augusta High School.  Dr. Celeste Spence, BCPC executive committee member, will award a $100 prize to the winning student, Christine Pawlowski.  Ms Pawlowski submitted a portrait of her sister, a brain cancer survivor, who was undergoing chemotherapy when the water-color portrait was painted. The BCPC’s new pink butterfly logo was donated by renowned local artist, Roel Wielinga, of Thomson, Georgia.  Mr. Wielinga also designed the 2011 calendar mousepad.
